Essential Conversations: Starifik: a journey of passion, vision, and commitment

  • At CPL, our mission is grounded in principles and practices of convening. We cultivate and inspire leaders from all walks of life to be engaged, inspired, and part of essential conversations that imagine and build a world that works for all. We believe that anyone can be a change agent and set intentions that have a positive impact on those we serve.

We have the honor and pleasure of partnering with organizations and individuals from across the globe to engage and focus on what matters and empower you to innovate, to lead.

Each month we host an intentional, convened thought leadership conversation. Please join us! Read below to learn more about this month’s Essential Conversations.

“We are artists, we are creatives, and we represent this community in a positive way we are here as hope even if it doesn't give us like monetary value.”

This Essential Conversations follows the 2025 theme of manifesting big dreams on behalf of elevating humanity.

CPL is thrilled to welcome our partners from the Whysmen Pub and Starifik visionary team as they speak to their big dreams and commitment to get there.

Join the founder of Whysmen Pub, Paul McCarthy, and the Whysmen team speaking to their dreams: Part of being the change I want to see in the world is our Whysmen-sponsored project as we gather as a community to hold Anthem’s dream of building his community centre in our hearts.

We will explore the story of Starifik: Even under the recent duress happening in Kenya, our friends at Starifik continue to manifest their intention to create this community center on behalf of the youth of the Mathare “slums” in Nairobi with a population of approximately 500,000 people.

“I am at the Launch of the fourth annual Missing Voices Report on Extra-judicial Police Executions in Kenya, 2023. Social Justice Activists express profound and agonizing frustrations as they endure this annual ritual while such killings persist. They've lost many friends and family members, fearing their own lives while battling police violence for over a decade. They ask: ‘alongside documentation, protest & push for accountability, what else can we do?’”

What they do is continue to hold a big dream: offer hope over despair; offer places for youth to express their creativity, learn leadership skills, care for each other. Offer a place where all lives matter, to feel that they are worthy of life, worthy of being seen as human beings who matter, and have something to contribute to the world.

What does community mean to you? We’ll reflect on why community matters now more than ever.

What role do you believe individuals and communities have in supporting systemic change to combat injustice, and how could your personal actions align with larger movements dedicated to social justice?

Through storytelling, breakout discussions, and shared reflection, we’ll consider what it means to value the humanity of each person, and how each of us can play a part in building a more connected world.
